This compilation of articles written by my colleague and friend Joan Trossman Bien is amazing for its quantity, scope and expertise. The collection may not be complete, and we will add any new Joan articles that friends, family and colleagues may send us.
The Ventura County Reporter, which Joan (and I) wrote for extensively, has somehow removed the bylines from most of our articles, making it impossible to find Joan’s outstanding work on the alternative weekly paper’s website. That is an outrageous violation of the authors’ ownership of their own work and serves to make the paper look even more unprofessional. Also, the latest permutation of the Moorpark Patch, and other Patch online news websites, has failed to include a ‘search’ button where the reader could find Joan’s work previously.
We have remedied that here. During the collection of these great works, we saved 124 of Joan’s works into Archive.org, in addition to the pieces of hers already saved there, which helps ensure that her journalism lives online permanently. Entries here are hot linked to the Archive.org versions and include both the original and Archive.org web addresses for added convenience and indexing.
We hope you enjoy Joan’s fine work. She was indeed a journalist’s journalist.
